Wildererpfad Gehlberg

The Wildererpfad is Gehlberg's most famous hiking trail, winding through the quiet woodland where poaching was a way of life in the Thuringian Forest for centuries. The 8 km circular route starts on the mountain meadow behind the Thüringer Museumspark and passes through the Edelmannsgrund valley, the beekeeping station in the Schneetiegel, the Seifartsburg rock formation with views to the Schneekopf, and along narrow root-and-stone paths back to Gehlberg. With over 300 metres of elevation change the trail is genuinely challenging — sturdy boots essential. Dogs welcome on a lead. Finish with a visit to the Wilderer Museum in the Museumspark.
